The San Juan Marriott hotel was built originally in 1964 with the name of Puerto Rico Sheraton. It was one of the main lodging spots in El Condado, Puerto Rico. At the time, it was famous for its olympic-sized swimming pool. It was also the venue for lots of sports activities like boxing.
In 1986, the hotel was the site of a tragic fire caused by some disgruntled employees in the middle of a labour/salary dispute. However, after some years, Marriott International bought the hotel. The hotel was repaired and renovated and now operates under the name of San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino.
