Great Blue Heron Charity Casino
In June 1998, the Ontario Government announced plans to create four charity casinos. Before launching this ambitious project, a complete and detailed survey of the host communities was undertaken to ensure community support. A year later, the Great Blue Heron Charity Casino was opened.
In May 2000, slot machine facility has also been added to the existing table game operation at Great Blue Heron Charity Casino, an aboriginal casino owned by the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation. Just east of the scenic town of Port Perry, Great Blue Heron Charity Casino offers 452 slot machines, 50 table games, the Waters Edge restaurant, Lucky Stone bar, Heron bar, and a aboriginal artifact display. It is open 24 hours a day, every day.
Along with providing responsible gaming entertainment, revenue from Great Blue Heron Charity Casino is distributed to charities through the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
